Looks like we are in for May-gray and June-gloom this year. It started last week.
It’s tough to shoot with heavy overcast. I spent last Saturday at Balboa Park from 12 to 4PM. Thankfully that was just when the sun broke through the haze. I didn’t care for the high sun, but I shot mostly inside the Botanical Building which filtered the light.
I was pretty happy with this shot. The light and dark created nice drama. And that’s what I love about black and white photography—the surprise. A blasé color photo can turn dramatic when you drop out the color. Black and white photography is just another way to discover the world in front of you.

Great shot. Truly Black and White photos give you the story behind the colours, another way to refocus and re-appreciate things.
